Safest Baby Cribs
Baby cribs have been around since dirt started, literally. Many cultures would dig a hollow in the ground to put
the new born baby in it. The Navajo Indians used the board cradle; the baby is put onto a straight board and
wrapped with animal furs to keep it warm. They also made cribs out of tree bark, lattice made from the leather of
an animal, just to name a few. As the settlers came to America and they began building larger houses, they would
build cribs or then called cradles. Usually the father or grandfather would make them. Some were carved and very
beautiful, some just plain and simple carved wood.
To keep the baby safe, baby cribs were made to be able to be moved around, keeping it with the mother, no matter
where she went. Even back then parents were concerned about the safety of the babies and their cribs. When deciding
on which would be the safest baby cribs, but remember a few important factors? With today’s safety features, be
sure to find out all you can about the maker of the cribs and what sort of safety features it has. Will they stand
by their products? Look around; do not pick the first one you see. Budget has a lot to do with choosing the safest
baby cribs as well.
Standards are quite high now; there have been too many accidents and deaths of babies in certain cribs. The
United States government has strict guidelines the crib manufacture has to adhere by. A safe baby crib should have
a firm mattress, it fitting tightly in the crib so it won’t move around. Some of the safest baby cribs have no
cutouts in either the foot or head boards. A baby can get its head caught in them. The slates should not be more
than the width of a soda can, or smaller.
Do not buy a crib that has the drop down sides, ones that slide down. Although they are popular and easy to
handle, they are not safe. New safety rules are coming out, so be careful. Some of the safest baby cribs have a
knee push, you lean your knee against the crib side and that lowers the sides. Many cribs have this device and seem
to be very popular. Some of the safest baby cribs might also come with a drop gate, but be sure to raise it high
enough when done so the baby does not fall or crawl out.
Some say the DaVinci Emily four in one is the safest of baby cribs. It is convertible allowing you to move the
crib around. It has static sides, and the mattress can be adjusted in four different levels. It can later make into
a trundle bed, a regular size child’s bed and a day bed. As to date it has no recalls or safety issues. The safest
baby cribs can cost a lot or you can find one that is reasonably priced. Be sure to check out everything before
buying it; find out if there are any recalls or safety issues before buying it.
